TIRUPATI: Former Alur MLA Patil Neeraja Reddy met with a road accident near Itikyala village in Gadyal Jogulamba district and died while undergoing treatment at Kurnool on Sunday.
According to Kodandapuram police, 52-year-old Neeraja Reddy was travelling from Hyderabad to Kurnool. The back tyre of her speeding car burst all of a sudden, the driver of the vehicle lost control resulting into the overspeeding SUV turning turtle and crasheing into the farmlands abutting the national highway 44.
Though Neeraja Reddy was rushed to a private hospital at Kurnool immediately, she breathed her last at the hospital on Sunday.
Neeraja Reddy, a native of Thernakal village in Devanakonda mandal, got elected as an MLA on a Congress party ticket from Alur in the combined state of Andhra Pradesh in the 2009 general elections.
She joined the YSRCP for a brief while in 2019 but later joined the BJP and was appointed as the state executive member.
Her husband Patil Seshi Reddy had also served as Pathikonda MLA but was killed in a faction attack in 1996.
