A former Mississippi law enforcement officer, Christian Dedmon, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for his involvement in the torture and abuse of two Black men in January 2023. Dedmon is the third of six former officers to be sentenced in connection with this case.

The six officers, including Rankin County Sheriff’s deputies Hunter Elward, Brett McAlpin, Daniel Opdyke, Jeffrey Middleton, and former Richland Police Department officer Joshua Hartfield, pleaded guilty to charges related to the torture and abuse of the two Black men.
