Jamie O’Hara has urged Tottenham to sell Harry Kane as he feels it may be time for the club to head in a different direction on the pitch.
England’s captain didn’t feature for the Lilywhites in their 1-0 win over Manchester City – the club who are of course interested in signing him - at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium on Sunday due to fitness concerns and Nuno Espirito Santo’s decision to leave him out of the squad has led to increased speculation about his future.
Tottenham have always maintained that they want to keep the striker, but with Kane’s desire to leave, Daniel Levy could be tempted by a huge offer if it proves too much to turn down.
However, after what was an inspiring victory over the Premier League Champions, O’Hara has been convinced that the club will be better off without him.
“I actually think we’re alright without him,” he told talkSPORT.
“The situation is getting a bit boring now for me. He wants out, it looks like he wants to go and I just look at the situation and go ‘you know what, we might actually be ok without him.’”
Spurs’ pace on the counter-attack against City proved pivotal to their success, and O’Hara thinks it might be best to keep with what was a quick line-up, and even add to it with the likes of Antony Martial or Patrick Bamford, the latter of whom has been linked with a move to north London.
“The way we play, the way we set it up with that front three, why don’t we do something different?”
“It’s not his fault but we haven’t won anything with him so why don’t we change and do something different? Go a different direction? Like a Martial, like a Patrick Bamford. Someone with a bit of pace.
“The way we played at the weekend I really enjoyed, Bergwijn, Son, Moura, the pace around the team was really good, I loved it.”
O’Hara also added that he will not be upset with Kane if he leaves, and thinks a deal will be best for all parties.
“He’ll be perfect for Man City because he is one of the best striker’s in the world but it might be time to change it and do something different.”
