Former Michigan State star Aerial Powers, Washington Mystics win WNBA Finals

There isn’t much I love much more in this world than watching someone who was a standout at Michigan State go on to win championships at the professional level. Enter Aerial Powers, Michigan State Women’s Basketball’s All-Time Leading Scorer and Washington Mystics bench dynamo. Power and the Mystics defeated the Connecticut Sun at home tonight to take home the WNBA Championship.

Oct 1, 2019; Washington, DC, USA; Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports

Powers had a strong showing the Finals, dropping 11 points in game one and 15 points in game four of the best of five series. Powers was a big part of how the Mystics got here in the first place, filling in on the starting lineup while Mystics start Kristi Tolliver was out with an injury during the regular season.

The Mystics knocked off the Sun tonight 89-78. Powers actually played her fewest minutes of the series and only scored 2 points but did add a block, an assist, and 4 rebounds. Emma Meesseman of the Mystics took home the honor of Finals MVP.
