Former Michigan State RB Le’Veon Bell on Jets QB Sam Darnold: ‘No bars’

Former Michigan State Football running back Le’Veon Bell has been a fun player to follow at the professional level because of his lack of fear when it comes to speaking his mind. Last season, Bell played for a New York Jets team that struggled under sophomore quarterback Sam Darnold, who also missed three games with mononucleosis.

On Monday, Bell praised the young QB for his improved leadership and command of the playbook, but did make a playful comment about Darnold’s past proclivity for the New York nightlife.

“We just have to make sure he stays healthy,” Bell said Monday. “I told him, ‘No bars.'”

In a post-COVID world, this is probably sound advice for anyone in the world, but rings particularly true for a quarterback known for partying who was also afflicted with mono, an illness associated with, well, kissing people at bars.
