A former Metropolitan Police officer has been given a six month suspended prison sentence after pleading guilty to making indecent photographs of children.

Daniel Babbs, of Redhill, Surrey, pleading guilty to three counts of making an indecent photograph/pseudo-photograph of a child and one count of possessing a prohibited image of a child.

The former PC was arrested in September last year after uploading an indecent image to social media. After his electronic devices were searched, further images were found.

Babbs, was also handed a seven-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and a 10-year Notification Order, and ordered to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work and pay £425 in costs. His jail sentence is suspended for 18 months.

He was sentenced at Guildford Magistrates’ Court on Friday after pleading guilty in July.

He resigned from the Met in November 2021 and was charged on June 26 this year. Before resigning, Babbs was attached to the Met’s Forensic Services department.

Chris Porter, Director of Forensic Services, said: “Our police officers and staff hold a position of trust and are here to serve the people of London, including its most vulnerable.

“It is clear that former PC Babbs failed to meet the standards that we expect and this was reflected in his guilty plea.

“We remain committed to ensuring that our workforce meets the highest levels of professionalism, and where we find this to not be the case, we will take appropriate action through the criminal courts and our own internal misconduct procedures.”

Now that criminal proceedings have concluded, misconduct proceedings will commence.
