Former Mayo star Cora Staunton named on AFLW Team of the Season

Former Mayo star Cora Staunton has been named on the AFLW Team of the Year after starring for GWS Giants again this season.

Although the club failed to make the play-off stages, Staunton’s form couldn’t be ignored as she kicked 10 goals over the course of the campaign.

The feat is all the more impressive given that Staunton, 39, suffered a double leg break which put her career in jeopardy in May 2019, while she only took up Australian rules football the year before that.

The Carnacon woman is no stranger to individual honours having also won 11 All Stars during her Mayo career, to go with her four All-Irelands, and has indicated that she will play in the AFLW once again in 2022.
