Former Mayo forward Enda Varley has transferred back to his native Garrymore after a five-year spell with St Vincent’s in Dublin.
A teacher based in the capital, Varley won county and Leinster titles in his first season with the Marino club in 2016 and added another county title the following year.
His time with Vincent’s came on the back of his last involvement with Mayo, having not played for the county since being dropped in 2015.
An All-Ireland under-21 winner in 2006, Varley started Mayo’s All-Ireland final defeat to Donegal in 2012 and featured off the bench as they fell to Dublin by a point in the decider 12 months later.
St Vincent’s once had a practice of not accepting transfers of players from outside the county though relaxing that rule helped to bring about a fresh run of success as they bridged a 23-year gap between county titles in 2007 and went on to add four more since, as well as four Leinster titles and two All-Irelands.
And although they are losing Varley, they have another Mayo native on board this year with Mark Regan having recently transferred from Moy Davitts.
