Former Manchester United youngster set to make Australian rugby dream come true

A former Manchester United youth player will soon fulfill his dream of playing in Australia's National Rugby League after changing his career path.

Teenager Herbie Franworth joined United at the age of 10 from Burnley as a promising central midfielder and would go on to spend two years in the youth ranks at Old Trafford.

Farnworth, from the village of Barrowford in the Pendle district of Lancashire, then held talks with local rivals Man City but instead opted to pursue a career in Rugby League and moved to Australia at the age of 14 to do so.

Farnworth caught the eye of Broncos while playing for Burleigh Bears, following representing England U16s against France and being a junior at Wigan St Patrick's club.

The now 19-year-old's risk is now about to pay off as he's set to make his debut for Brisbane Broncos.

The goalkicking winger is getting the opportunity alongside two other youngsters as the Broncos will be without several of their Queensland Origin players.

He is signed with the Broncos until the end of 2020 and coach Anthony Seibold said: "Herbie Farnworth has been going really good for Norths Devils in the Queensland Cup."
