Former Manchester United youngster linked with Nottingham Forest switch

Nottingham Forest are in the running to sign former Reading defender Tyler Blackett, it has been claimed.

Reports in France suggest the ex-Manchester United youngster, who left the Madejski Stadium earlier this summer will sign for Sabri Lamouchi’s Reds, instead of moving to the MLS where it was expected he would link up with Cincinnati FC.

Blackett appeared to be close to signing a pre-contract agreement with a Turkish club in January, said to be either Trabzonspor or Ankaragucu, though a move failed to materialise owing to concerns over his fitness.

As it was, the defender was one of six players released by Mark Bowen upon the conclusion of the season, joining two ex-Forest men in Chris Gunter and Garath McCleary in departing the Berkshire club.

Now 26, Blackett came through the United youth academy before joining Reading in 2016 where he went on to make 116 appearances, including 20 last term.

Since making his debut in 2012, Blackett has had loan spells at Birmingham Blackpool and Celtic, whilst also representing England from Under-16 level through to Under-21.

Forest are short of left-back cover ahead of the new season, with Yuri Ribeiro the only player currently fit and available for boss Lamouchi, with January arrival Gaetan Bong injured having featured just once since his winter arrival from Brighton.
