Former Manchester United striker Joshua King slams 'lying' Carlo Ancelotti

Former Manchester United striker Joshua King has slammed Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti, accusing him of lying to him during his time at Everton.

The Norwegian striker has endured something of a fall from grace over the course of the past 18 months, having seen a potential return to United from Bournemouth fail to materialise in January 2020.

Instead, United signed Odion Ighalo from China and King spent the rest of the 2020/21 season frozen out by Eddie Howe on the south coast having made his desire to leave clear.

Having run down his contract with the Cherries, King was without a club until February of this year, penning a short-term deal with Everton.

However, his opportunities at Goodison Park were extremely limited and all of his 11 appearances came off the bench — which King has suggested he was not informed of, and instead believed he would be starting matches under Ancelotti.

Asked if he felt like he had been lied to, King did not hold back in his criticism of his former boss, telling Dagbladet: ”Yes I do. That's how the football world is.

“This is how it is when you get to the top of the real world. That's the way it is. But no, I do not regret that I went there.

"But yes, he lied to me. But again, there are not many honest people who work in football. Except for the players, then. I had no relationship with Ancelotti.

"The gut feeling said Everton when their offer came on the table. But I had never thought that in 18 games I would not be allowed to start one.”

King is now on the lookout for a new club once again ahead of the start of the new season, having been released by Everton, while Ancelotti has since returned to Madrid.
