Former Manchester United striker explains why Jude Bellingham would be the 'perfect' signing

Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha believes that Jude Bellingham would be a "perfect fit" for the Reds' midfield and has hinted that he could be the long-term replacement for Christian Eriksen.

Bellingham was a United target when the youngster played for Birmingham City. The Reds showed the teenager around Carrington before the midfielder opted to make the move to Borussia Dortmund.

It's hard to argue that this was a poor call from the teenager, with Bellingham quickly becoming one of the best young prospects on the planet during his time in the Bundesliga. The 19-year-old enjoyed a stellar World Cup for England which included his first goal for his country against Iran and a man-of-the-match performance against Senegal.

While plenty of clubs are interested in Bellingham, Saha believes United should go all out to bring him to Old Trafford. Speaking to Paddy Power, Saha explained: "For quite a few years now, Manchester United have been a team who have lacked energy and fitness in games, and have been outrun in matches, which is not normal if you’re trying to return to the top, so that is something that Jude Bellingham would be able to bring in if he came to United.

"Jude would be able to pick out the right passes to the more agile players, in a similar way to what Bruno Fernandes does by being a box-to-box midfielder. Manchester United would be an incredibly tough team to defend against if they had Jude Bellingham and Bruno Fernandes in midfield together, with Casemiro sitting behind them as cover for the defenders.

"I would love to see Jude Bellingham at Manchester United, not only as a fan but also because he’d be the perfect fit in the midfield." Sadly for Saha, a move to the red half of Manchester would be highly unlikely unless Erik ten Hag can bring regular Champions League football to the Theatre of Dreams again.

Dortmund also have the upper hand in negotiations due to there being no release clause in his contract which expires in 2025.
