Former Manchester United star reveals Notts County disappointment

Former Notts County goalkeeper Roy Carroll  has been disappointed with the Magpies' descent into non-league football.

The veteran stopper spent two years at Meadow Lane under previous boss Shaun Derry until he departed for Irish side Linfield in 2016.

Since he left, Notts have lost their Football League status having been relegated at the end of last season on the back of a 3-1 defeat to Swindon Town.

Now they are trying to reclaim their status as the world's oldest professional league club under Neal Ardley but ex-West Ham goalkeeper Carroll says it has been frustrating to see their plight.

"It’s very disappointing," said Carroll, speaking to the Sportsman.

"My dad’s a Notts County fan and I was there for two years.

“Shaun Derry was there when he brought me back from Greece and he was doing a really good job whilst I was there, but he didn’t get the backing from the owners.

“When I was there, including caretaker managers, I’d of said that there were six or seven managers. The position they’re in at the moment, out of the Football League, is a horrible feeling.”
