Former Manchester United star Patrice Evra says Celtic had best European atmosphere

Former Manchester United and Juventus star Patrice Evra says the greatest Champions League atmosphere he ever experienced was at Celtic Park.

Evra reached four Champions League finals during his career, winning the tournament with United in 2008. He also made numerous appearances in the tournament during his time with Monaco and Juve.

The Frenchman twice appeared as a substitute at Celtic Park, coming on for the last three minutes of Gordon Strachan's side's 1-0 win in November 2006 and the final 24 minutes of a 1-1 draw against Strachan's men in November 2008.

Evra, who retired in 2019, was answering fan questions in a bath for Joe.co.uk with Hotels.com when he reflected on his Celtic Park experiences.

When asked what the best Champions League atmosphere he'd experienced was, Evra said: "I will go for Celtic. I remember Celtic.

"They are the ones, for real. 'You'll Never Walk Alone'. When they sing that song, I remember I even got some goosebumps.

"Wow. Celtic."

A memorable Shunsuke Nakamura free-kick gave Celtic the victory in Evra's first Celtic Park match, while Ryan Giggs scored a late goal for United to cancel out Scott McDonald's goal in the 2008 encounter.
