Former Manchester United midfielder Keith Gillespie believes both Jesse Lingard and Donny van de Beek would be "really good acquisitions" for Newcastle United.
The futures of both Lingard and Van de Beek at Old Trafford are under the spotlight at this moment in time, especially the former's, with Lingard poised to leave United at some point in 2022, following the news that discussions over a new deal at Old Trafford have collapsed.
Lingard, who excelled whilst on loan at West Ham United last season, was expected to play a key role for United this season, but has so far been limited to just eight appearances in all competitions. With that in mind, he could now be sold in January to avoid United running the risk of losing him for free next summer.
Van de Beek, meanwhile, has also been heavily linked with an exit from the club, once again because of a lack of opportunities. The Dutchman has made a paltry five appearances this term and has been heavily linked with a move away from the club ahead of the January transfer window.
With Newcastle poised to invest heavily in their squad during the upcoming transfer window, following the completion of their recent takeover, both Lingard and Van de Beek have been linked with moves to St James' Park.
For Gillespie, who joined Newcastle from United in 1995, both players would be solid additions for the Magpies, if they were to make a move for their signatures.
Gillespie told the True Faith: Newcastle United Fanzine and Podcast : "You look at Man United and you go: 'Could you go and get Jesse Lingard? Could you go and get Donny van de Beek?'
"You know, we're talking top, top players there, who will be frustrated by their lack of first-team action. Whether Man United would let them go, I don't know.
"But I think they would be really good acquisitions, especially somebody like Donny van de Beek. He has come over to the Premier League and hasn't had the chance to prove himself. There is talk about if he leaves the club he will end up going back abroad.
"I'm sure that he will want to show the Premier League, 'Yes, I can play in the league'.
"Everybody knows that he is a good player, but I just feel as if he hasn't been given the chance. But I think just every man and his dog is going to be linked with the club (Newcastle).
"I think it just has to be realistic targets."
Lingard has already been linked with a whole host of clubs in the last few days, not least former loan side West Ham. Van de Beek has also been linked with an array of clubs, both in the Premier League and abroad, but Newcastle's name in the last few weeks has crept up more than most.
