Former Manchester United player Ryan Giggs to miss Wales fixtures after arrest

Former Manchester United player Ryan Giggs will not take charge of Wales' three fixtures over the November international break.

The Wales boss was arrested and questioned on suspicion of assault and actual bodily harm by the Greater Manchester Police and the Football Association of Wales (FAW) issued a statement confirming they were aware of the allegations on Monday evening.

Giggs ' squad for the November international fixtures was due to be detailed today but that announcement was cancelled and it has now been confirmed he will not be in the dugout.

"The Football Association of Wales and Ryan Giggs have mutually agreed that he will not be involved in the upcoming international camp," the FAW said. "Our agreed immediate priority is preparing the team for the upcoming international matches.

"Robert Page, with Ryan's support, will take charge for the next three matches against the USA, Republic of Ireland and Finland, supported by Albert Stuivenberg. The FAW will not be making any further comment at this current time."

A statement made by a representative of Giggs, reported in the Mirror, said: "Mr Giggs denies all allegations of assault made against him. He is cooperating with the police and will continue to assist them with their ongoing investigations."

The 46-year-old has managed the Welsh national side since 2018, having previously been the assistant manager at United. Giggs spent the entirety of his 24-year playing career with the Reds, making over 950 appearances across all competitions.
