Former Manchester United player has a strong message for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer doubters

Former Manchester United player Danny Higginbotham insists that any demands for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to be sacked are 'laughable' and he explains that the Norwegian must be given time.

Solskjaer endured a wonderful honeymoon period at the Red Devils after taking over on an initial caretaker basis last December, with the high point a remarkable second-leg victory at Paris Saint-Germain which allowed United to progress through to the Champions League quarter-finals.

But it has largely been downhill from there as United were dumped out of the Champions League by Barcelona and ended up finishing in sixth after failing to beat two already-relegated sides in their final two matches.

Higginbotham, however, is adamant that the former United striker should be strongly backed by the board this summer and allowed time to build something at Old Trafford .

“The talk of people saying Solskjaer should go already, I think it’s laughable,” Higginbotham told talkSPORT .

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told Manchester United are better team without Paul Pogba

“He hasn’t brought anybody into the club, he hasn’t brought in players he believes fit his style.

“He’s got to be given time in the summer to be able to do what he wants, whether that be bringing players in or getting rid of players.

“There’s been so much chopping and changing. You have to have continuity, because if you haven’t got that, you haven’t got anything."

Manchester United transfer target Matthijs de Ligt 'agrees to join Barcelona'

Higginbotham adds that what Jurgen Klopp has achieved at Liverpool is something which both Solskjaer and United should be aiming to replicate.

“You look at Jurgen Klopp and what he’s doing at Liverpool. It’s incredible, but there’s been a plan in place. When he first took over, he didn’t sign anybody. He had a trial period for the players at the club, and that’s what I believe Solskjaer has done.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirms Manchester United coaching staff for 2019-20 season

“From him taking over to the last game of the season, I think he’s been able to evaluate every single player at the club, so he can say which players are going to fit in with his plans and the ones that aren’t. So now he goes into the summer knowing what positions he needs to strengthen."
