Former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho turns down Lyon role because 'he has chosen another club'

Former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has turned down the chance to manage Lyon after being offered the job, it has been revealed.

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas confirmed that he'd held talks with the former Chelsea, Real Madrid and United boss as he looks to appoint a successor to Sylvinho in the manager's seat.

But Mourinho rejected the offer of employment with some claiming that is because he is targeting another role in the Premier League.

"We had some fairly flattering exchanges over SMS," Aulas told Get French Football .

"He did not accept our proposal to meet because he has already chosen another club."

Mourinho has been linked with the Tottenham Hotspur job, with speculation that Mauricio Pochettino could leave his position after five years in charge of the North London outfit. Since leaving United, he's been mentioned in relation to a number of other jobs — including Celtic, Real Madrid and in the Chinese Super League — but remains a free agent.

Mourinho has been working as a pundit for Sky Sports and beINSports during his time away from the management hotseat and has also been named as an ambassador for bookmaker Paddy Power.

He said, upon his unveiling as a Sky pundit, that he was still actively looking for his next job.

"Football is a huge passion, it means so much to the fans, and I look forward to being part of the Premier League with [Sky Sports] until I return to my place on the touchline."
