Jose Mourinho put his ties to Manchester United to one side as he said he was pleased for Jurgen Klopp following Liverpool's Champions League victory over Tottenham.
Klopp ended his six-match losing streak in finals as Liverpool beat Spurs in Madrid to clinch their sixth European Cup.
Prior to Saturday's win at the Wanda Metropolitano, Klopp had lost his last six finals - three with Dortmund and three with Liverpool - and there were questions surrounding his record in big matches prior to the meeting in Spain.
That led to Arsene Wenger suggesting pre-match that Klopp and Liverpool would have a problem on their hands if they fell at the final hurdle once more.
Ultimately that problem didn't materialise as goals from Mo Salah and Divock Origi wrapped up a 2-0 win.
Mourinho was on punditry duty alongside Wenger and he had some kind words for Klopp after the final whistle.
"A manager who reached three Champions League finals, it's hard to lose one, must be very, very hard to lose two and today I think it's a phenomenal day of his life, of his career," Mourinho told beIN SPORTS. "As a colleague, I’m very happy with it."
The former United manager also suggested Liverpool are in such a strong position that they could reach another European final next season.
"With Real Madrid it's three in a row," Mourinho said. "Why can't Liverpool do three finals in a row?
"Why Liverpool, with this good team, with this good spirit, with this good empathy. The club, the manager, the players, the fans. Why not a third?"
