Former Manchester United goalkeeper Roy Carroll signs for Mid Ulster League side

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Roy Carroll is set to continue his career in the Mid Ulster League.

Carroll is teaming up with old Northern Ireland teammate Keith Gillespie at FC Mindwell.

The new club was set up during lockdown and is dedicated to helping people with mental health issues.

Carroll left Linfield in the summer of 2019 before setting up his own goalkeeping clinic RC1 Coaching.

Now the 42-year-old is preparing to don the gloves once again in Mid Ulster's Division Three.

"I know he is going to be a huge part of this journey," FC Mindwell boss David Dawson said.

"Signing a player of Roy's calibre is only ever something I could have dreamed of and when the conversation came about it was a no brainer.

"We were lucky to have Roy down on our pre-season trip and he did really well as you'd expect in the game, but what really impressed me was his enthusiasm off the pitch and the way he integrated with the rest of the players.

"It is yet another example of how quick the club is growing and how well it's being run when we can attract not only one but now two former Premier League players, both of whom along with the rest of the entire squad are doing so purely for the love of the beautiful game."
