Former Manchester United forward Romelu Lukaku racially abused during Inter Milan win

Former Manchester United forward Romelu Lukaku was the subject of racial abuse during Inter Milan's win against Cagliari on Sunday night.

Inter’s record signing was the subject of monkey chants during the game with the abuse clearly audible as he scored from the penalty spot late on.

The Belgian international stood and stared at the Cagliari home fans after he scored the penalty late in the game to secure a 2-1 win for Antonio Conte's side.

Speaking after the game Inter manager Conte admitted he had not heard the chanting himself, but confessed that 'more education' is needed in Italian football.

"I really didn't hear anything from the bench," the former Chelsea manager said. "However, it is true that in general in Italy more education is needed."

It is not the first time Cagliari have been the subject of racist chanting this year, with former Juventus forward Moise Kean the victim of racist abuse back in April.

The 19-year-old forward was targeted for abuse throughout the match as Juventus secured a 2-0 win away at Cagliari in Serie A last season.

Kean netted the second goal of the match at the Sardegna Arena and celebrated by standing in front of the home supporters with his arm aloft, and was subjected to further abuse.

Following the goal play was stopped and a warning message was broadcast to the crowd informing them further abuse could potentially lead to the game being abandoned.

Following the incident earlier in the year United midfielder Paul Pogba uploaded a picture of Kean's celebration to his Instagram account with the caption: "I support every fight against racism, we're all equal."
