Ex- Manchester United defender Mikael Silvestre has explained why former boss Sir Alex Ferguson is not consulted over the changing of managers at the club.
It comes just days after the news that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had left the club following a string of poor results in the Premier League, leaving the Red Devils slumped in eighth.
Paris-Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino is keen on a switch from the French capital back to England to manage Manchester United, with Sir Alex an admirer of the former Tottenham boss.
The Manchester Evening News understands that United are confident of hiring Pochettino as their next permanent manager.
Speaking in L’Equipe, via the Daily Mail, ex-United defender Silvestre said that Ferguson has minimal say in proceedings on the board: “He is part of the board, but he is not consulted about the change of coach.
“The last time he had any influence on the arrival of a coach was with David Moyes.
“He is far from operational. He certainly had this privileged relationship with Ole, but he remains behind.”
Silvestre, 44, played under the Scotsman at the club, joining in 1999 and leaving for Arsenal in 2008 after nearly 250 competitive appearances at United.
In that time, he won four Premier League titles, an FA Cup, an EFL Cup and a Champions League.
The former defender also played with Michael Carrick, who is now the caretaker manager whilst the search for a new interim manager is underway.
He claimed that Carrick will bring a “boost” to the team: “He will prepare the team and give the best of himself. He is still in the learning phase but it will still give the team a boost.”
