Former Manchester United coach Warren Joyce gets new role

Warren Joyce has agreed a short-term deal to take over as manager of the Nottingham Forest under-18s team.

Joyce was the boss of the Manchester United academy team for eight years before leaving the club to take over as head coach of Wigan Athletic and later Melbourne City in Australia.

His run as manager of the Latics lasted just four months as he won only six of 24 matches in charge, before moving to the A-League for two years.

He joined Salford City as their first academy head coach in 2019 but left earlier this month.

Now Forest, who were granted conditional category 1 status in May, have moved to bring in the highly rated coach for their youngsters. They will compete in the Premier League North Division for the 2021/22 campaign.

Joyce replaces Gareth Holmes, who left the club earlier this week to 'pursue new opportunities', after six years in charge where he helped build a pathway for young players to blossom in the first-team including Alex Mighten and Brennan Johnson.

During his time at Manchester United Joyce helped to bring through the likes of Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Ravel Morrison and won the FA Youth Cup in 2011.

He worked alongside current first-team manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for the reserves as co-manager before he took over on his own when Solskjaer left for FC Molde in 2011.
