Former Manchester United boss gives unlikely praise of Leeds United

Former Manchester United manager David Moyes has branded Leeds United’s support as “one of the best in the country” and believes the Premier League need the club back.

Moyes, who has been out of work since leaving West Ham United, has waxed lyrical about the Whites’ fans.

The former Everton manager was already a popular figure among Leeds supporters for his failed time at arch-rivals United, but he has now gone the extra mile to endear himself to the support base.

Moyes is looking to get back into the management scene after a full season out of the game, having left the Hammers in 2018.

The Scotsman has been linked as one of the candidates to take over at David Beckham newly-found Major League Soccer side, Inter Miami.

However, focussing on Leeds, Moyes believes that Premier League miss a club of their stature and the support they bring.

Speaking on talkSPORT’s Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, he said: “I think the Premier League needs Leeds United back.

“I’ve been to a couple of the game and I watched them a year ago away from home, they were at Fulham, and the support they brought to the game was incredible.

“Leeds United’s support, for me, is arguably one of the best in the country. I think they’re missed outside of the Premier League, I really do.”

Having missed out on promotion by the narrowest margins last season, Marcelo Bielsa’s side are favourites with the bookmakers to gain promotion this time around.

Four points from their opening two Championship fixtures has led many to believe they will be right in the thick of the promotion race once again.

United take on Salford City tonight in the Carabao Cup, in what is bound to be a spicy affair, before travelling to face Wigan Athletic on Saturday.
