Former Manchester United and Rangers trialist Matthew Knox joins semi-pro Irish side

Former Rangers trialist Matthew Knox has signed for Northern Irish semi-professional side Warrenpoint Town.

The 20-year-old was regarded as one of the finest young Scottish talents of his generation and also spent time with Manchester United, Liverpool and Sunderland.

He grabbed headlines when he made his debut for Livingston four days after his 16th birthday back in 2015.

Knox's development slowed and he spent time on loan away from the Lions at East Fife and Berwick Rangers before joining Brechin City for the 2019/20 season.

The former Scotland youth international left Glebe Park over the summer and he is now taking the chance by heading across the water to ply his trade in the NIFL Premiership.

And their manager Barry Gray is delighted to have secured Knox's services ahead of the new season.

He told Warrenpoint's official website: “Matthew is only 20 years old and he’s already attracted massive interest from some very big clubs. He has an enormous amount of ability and he’s so ambitious to kick his career on to a new level.

"I’m delighted that he has bought into the challenge at Warrenpoint and fully expect him to excel in the season ahead. Hungry players willing to do whatever it takes is fantastic for us as we move forward.”

“Matthew has relocated from Edinburgh and we look forward to working closely with him in the year ahead”
