Former Manchester City star David James is the latest celebrity to be voted off Strictly Come Dancing

David James has become the fourth celebrity to leave Strictly Come Dancing.

The former England and Manchester City goalkeeper and his professional partner Nadiya Bychkova waved goodbye to the Glitterball after a dance-off with BBC sports presenter Mike Bushell and Katya Jones.

Watched closely by judges Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Alfonso Ribeiro, who was standing in for Bruno Tonioli, they reprised their jive to Such a Night by Michael Bublé and Mike and Katya performed their Salsa to Jump On It to The Sugar Hill Gang.

The judges’ scores from Saturday night's show had been combined with the results of the viewers’ votes to decide the lowest scoring two couples facing the dance off.

And all judges opted to save Mike and Katya.

Craig said: “Well for me both couples were pretty much technically equal but the couple who I’d like to save were the most confident performers and that was Mike And Katya.”

Motsi said: “Well I felt that one couple gave me a better performance than I saw the first time so I’m going to save Mike and Katya.”

And Fresh Prince of Bel Air star Alfonso said: “The couple who I’m going to save put on a great show.

"The technique wasn’t there but they came out and delivered a showstopper for the audience to love so I’m going to save Mike And Katya.”

When asked by host Tess Daly about his time on the show, David said: “Oh I’ve loved it. I feel so bad I’ve let Nadiya down in a sense. I’ve enjoyed it but I’ve put some weight on though.”

Nadiya said: “He’s done so well. I’m so proud of you. From the first day he couldn’t lift his elbows up or stand straight and now he’s delivered such an amazing jive. I’m so proud.”

The remaining eleven couples will take to the dancefloor next weekend when Strictly Come Dancing returns on Saturday at 6.35pm with the results show on Sunday at 7.15pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
