
THE former secretary manager of the Kurri Kurri Bowling Club is accused of defrauding the club of more than $1.8 million over a seven-year period.
Victor Keith Dobing, 52, of Stanford Merthyr, is accused of manipulating accounting records, falsifying invoices and concealing the theft of cash in an alleged comprehensive fraud that threatened to sink the popular Coalfields club.
Mr Dobing has not entered a plea to a charge of dishonestly obtain financial advantage or cause disadvantage by deception and was excused from appearing in Kurri Kurri Local Court on Tuesday.
The matter was adjourned until February.
Cessnock detectives allege Mr Dobing fraudulently obtained $1,856,605 between August, 2010, and when he resigned in August, 2017.
He was arrested in central west NSW in September, 2019, and remains on conditional bail.
In December, 2017, Mr Dobing was replaced as secretary manager by Peter Fairbairn, who the club credited with steering them through the financial minefield.
