Former Man Utd target Mario Gotze to leave Borussia Dortmund this summer

Mario Gotze looks set to leave Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season with his contract almost up.

The German has just six months to run on his current deal at Signal Iduna Park, but is unlikely to sign an extension.

Dortmund are prepared to offer Gotze an extension with sporting manager Michael Zorc to hold talks with the player's father.

However, according to Bild , there is no chance the 27-year-old will sign it.

Gotze has previously been a target for Manchester United and Arsenal with his stock particularly high during his first spell at Dortmund.

The Red Devils are looking for a creative midfielder, but have not been linked with the playmaker for years and are set to pursue homegrown talents.

Gotze shunned the opportunity to move abroad back in 2013 and opted to sign for Bayern Munich for £30m, although the move didn't work out and he returned to Dortmund three years later.

He has been unable to revive his career in western Germany and slipped down the pecking order under Lucien Fabre.

The recent arrival of Erling Haaland is set to further damage his play time with Dortmund already having the likes of Marco Reus, Jadon Sancho and Julian Brandt to choose from.

Any team interested in the 2014 World Cup winner are likely going to have to match his £160,000-a-week wages.

Dortmund also face the possibility of losing Sancho, although they are adamant the teenager will not be leaving in January.

United have been long-term admirers of the England international but Chelsea have recently upped their interest with Frank Lampard keen to make up for lost time in the transfer market.
