Former Man Utd striker Dimitar Berbatov gives view amid Liverpool title uncertainty

Dimitar Berbatov believes Liverpool are worthy winners of this season's Premier League title and thinks it would be "unfair" if they are denied it as debate continues over how the campaign should be concluded.

The Reds were an astonishing 25 points clear at the top of the table when football was suspended due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, and they were closing in on their first top flight title in 30 years.

At the moment it is not clear how the current season will finish, however, with some believing it should become null and void, which would see Liverpool cruelly miss out on what would be a much-deserved first place finish.

Speaking to Betfair Berbatov put his previous club rivalry behind him and said he would not begrudge Jurgen Klopp's side being handed the trophy even if the remaining games cannot be played.

"People are suggesting to give the title to Liverpool, and honestly they deserve it the way they had been playing, nobody was going to catch them," the Bulgarian said.

"With the way they play their games, the football they produced and how far they are in front, they fully deserve the title this season.

"It's so strange, and it will be unfair on Liverpool if the season is voided, they will be so disappointed."

Berbatov does not share the same opinion as his former United teammate Rio Ferdinand, who said in an Instagram Live Q&A that he felt the campaign should be called off.

"I just think the Premier League should be void. Void it," he said.

"I know there’s going to be a lot of Liverpool fans going, 'Oh, Rio, it’s just because you used to play for Man United'.

"I just don’t see a way that can be done where health isn’t compromised. Simple as that. All this behind closed doors business – you’re still going to have players there, are the players not part of society?"
