Former Man Utd star reveals one player Sir Alex Ferguson would not give hairdryer to

Sir Alex Ferguson never gave the hairdryer to Cristiano Ronaldo during his time at Manchester United .

Ronaldo shot to stardom at Old Trafford following his arrival as a teenager from Sporting Lisbon in 2003.

The Portuguese superstar helped United to three Premier League titles and the Champions League during his spell, establishing himself as one of the best players in the world.

His relationship with Ferguson was instrumental in that and former United defender Jonathan Spector believes the legendary boss knew how to get the best out of his No.7.

And the American admits Ronaldo even managed to avoid an ear bashing from his boss.

"Some players responded well to an arm around, some players responded well when you got into them and he knew how to speak to players, so he was very clever with that," Spector told AmericanGambler.com.

"But I never saw him scream at Ronaldo, but I don't think it was preferential, he just knew the best way of getting the best out of his players.

"I think Ferguson was incredibly clever with that because he knew how to speak to players, that they might not all react the same way to criticism."

Ronaldo initially struggled to adapt to the physicality of the Premier League and Spector admits he was "frustrating" during his first few months.

The former Birmingham and West Ham man thinks his progression to the very top owes a lot to his ex-teammates.

"I think he owes a lot for the player he is today not just to the manager but the players that were around him," Spector added.

"I think those formative years in his development to make him the finished product; he couldn't have been at a better place that Manchester United."
