Former Man Utd and Everton star angers Liverpool fans with title claim

Ex-Manchester United and Everton shot-stopper Tim Howard said he will be a Manchester City fan for the next two weeks as this season's thrilling title race comes to a conclusion.

Howard spent four years at United and ten years at Everton , so it is perhaps unsurprising to hear that there is no love lost between himself and Liverpool .

The 40-year-old, who now plays for American side Colorado Rapids, nailed his colours to the mast with some strong words about his feelings towards the red side of Merseyside.

Speaking to CNN, he said: "I hope Liverpool never win a title while I'm still breathing."

Lionel Messi's special motivation to score against Liverpool in Champions League

"We have two teams in the form that they're both in. It'll come down to the wire.

"If no one has a slip up, then City wins."

Aside from the title race, Howard also gave his views on his old team-mate Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The Norwegian's honeymoon period in the Old Trafford dugout is well and truly over after a rotten run of form which has seen United win just two of their last ten matches in all competitions.

But Howard still has faith that Solskjaer can bring the glory days back to United.

Barcelona vs Liverpool predictions: Our experts on Champions League semi-final first leg

"Football's funny," he said. "Pundits and fans are funny. He's the right man for the job. Hopefully they will spend some money and they'll get his players in and it's no problem.

"He comes in and wins every game for three months and he's the second coming of Jesus Christ and everyone loves him and then they tear him down and are ready to throw him off the ledge."

Howard is a man who knows a thing or two about good times at Old Trafford, having won an FA Cup, League Cup and Community Shield during his spell at the club.

He will no doubt also be supporting Barcelona tonight as they host Liverpool in a mouth-watering Champions League semi-final.
