Former Man Utd player admits he convinced Martin Odegaard to join Arsenal

Former Manchester United striker Josh King has revealed the key role he played in Martin Odegaard’s January move to Arsenal.

King completed a move of his own in the last window, joining Everton in a deadline day deal.

But the Norwegian has admitted he also played agent for his compatriot’s move to the Premier League, after a series of messages between the pair.

"When I saw the rumour about Arsenal, I sent him a message and said: 'You have to go to Arsenal'," he told NKR.

"He replied, 'are you sure? Are you sure?' – I was so sure [as I know] Arsenal's style of play and Martin's.

"I have friends who have played for Arsenal, and I know a little how the club is. In my head, I think it suited him well."

Since arriving in North London from Real Madrid, Odegaard has finally managed to play some regular football and although no decision has been made on his future, he has hinted he wants to find stablity with the club.

“I said many times that I’ve been looking for stability [in the same club], but haven’t found it," he told VG.

“I think it’ll be important to find stability. I’m very happy at Arsenal, enjoying myself. I like it here.

“Now my focus is to finish the season, then we’ll see.”

Arteta has remained coy on any negotiations with his parent club, although reports suggest he is keen for him to return next season.

However, the Arsenal boss has been happy to outline the huge influence the midfielder is already having within his squad.

Odegaard played an instrumental role in their dramatic 3-3 draw with West Ham on Sunday, with Arteta pointing to his lofty status within the squad.

"Well, he’s showing that I think from week one,” he said on the 22-year-old’s leadership qualities.

"The way he steps on the pitch, he always wants the ball, the way he commands the pressing. He’s been really influential.

"I think we’ve all been a bit surprised because he looks really shy and humble, but when he steps on that pitch he’s a real character and he loves to play football."
