Yet another senior member of staff from Manchester United has left the club, with former chief of staff Patrick Coyle taking up a role with the PFA.
Coyle becomes the latest senior member of staff at Old Trafford to leave the club, with sweeping changes being made ahead of Erik ten Hag’s arrival as the club’s new manager in the summer. He joins executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward, chief transfer negotiator Matt Judge, head of corporate finance Hemen Tseayo, chief scout Jim Lawlor and head of global scouting Marcel Bout in departing United.
Director of communications Charlie Brooks has also stepped down, while the futures of the current coaching staff look uncertain ahead of Ten Hag’s arrival. Chris Armas, Mike Phelan, analyst Ewan Sharp and psychologist Sascha Lense could be moved on, with Ten Hag expected to bring his own coaching staff with him to Old Trafford.

Coyle becomes the PFA’s new chief operating officer, with a statement from the union saying he will be “responsible for providing internal leadership to key departments at the PFA and driving operational efficiency, effective business change and strategic planning activities.” He joins the PFA after almost a decade with United, having served in operational, commercial and financial roles with the club.
On Coyle’s appointment, PFA chief executive Maheta Molango said: “I’m delighted to welcome Patrick to the team. This is a key appointment for the PFA and one that will help ensure that, across the organisation, our staff can work strategically and effectively to provide the best possible support and services to those we serve – our members.
“Patrick brings with him a wealth of industry experience from his time at Manchester United, which I believe will be of huge benefit to the organisation.”
Coyle added: “It’s a great time to be joining the PFA, an organisation that has a major role representing those who play the game at a time of significant change for the sport. Maheta and the team have a clear strategic vision for the future of the PFA and I’m looking forward to working with the union’s talented and dedicated staff to bring that to life.”
