Former Man City winger backs Kevin De Bruyne to claim Ballon d’Or

Former Manchester City winger Trevor Sinclair is backing Kevin De Bruyne to claim the Ballon d’Or in years to come.

The City playmaker has been one of his side's standout stars in the last couple of years, scoring 25 times and claiming 53 assists in 125 Premier League appearances.

And Sinclair, who has been left incensed after no City players were named in FIFA’s World XI that was announced earlier this week, is convinced the Belgium international will get his hands on biggest individual prize in the game as long as he remains fits.

“He can absolutely win it,” Sinclair responded when asked whether the former Chelsea can win the Ballon d’Or on talkSPORT .

"The only reason he hasn’t been considered is because there’s something going on with FIFA and Manchester City players.

“None of them made team of the year – even Bernardo Silva despite what he won for City and Portugal.”

De Bruyne missed large chunks of last season through injury, and Sinclair believes his impressive form this season is due to missing half of last season's campaign.

“I think there’s a lot of frustration from what he missed out on last season,” the former West Ham man added.

“He missed half the Premier League games and he is almost taking out his frustration on the rest of the Premier League. His performances have been absolutely breathtaking.

“Physically, I’ve not seen him look any better than now and if he stays fit it’s going to be a difficult title to take away from Manchester City.”
