Former Man City midfielder David Silva test positive for coronavirus

Former Manchester City midfielder David Silva has tested positive for coronavirus.

Silva departed City following their exit from the Champions League and announced a move back to Spain, joining Real Sociedad on a free transfer.

The 34-year-old has tested positive for COVID-19 but is not displaying any symptoms and is self-isolating.

News comes just hours after fellow Sociedad forward Mikel Oyarzabal was forced to withdraw from Spain's squad for their Nations League fixtures after also testing positive.

"I want to communicate that I've received a positive result from my last test," Oyarzabal, who has won seven caps, wrote on Instagram. "I have to be at home for a few days and I won't be able to go to the national team."

Silva was not named in Luis Enrique's squad.

Silva outlined his ambitions at Sociedad after completing his move back to La Liga.

He said: "I have high expectations in terms of the football we'll be playing and I think we can compete for silverware.

"I've been lucky enough to win a lot of things in my career. I'm very competitive and I'm going to try and do the same here because that's why I've been brought in."
