Former Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott believes Chelsea could be Premier League title contenders next season.
The Blues claimed their second Champions League title on Saturday night, defeating Manchester City thanks to Kai Havertz's first-half strike, the German latching on the end of Mason Mount's fine through ball.
Chelsea were not favourites heading into the tie in Porto, but they defeated Pep Guardiola's Premier League-winning City for a third successive game after wins in the Premier League and FA Cup.
The win means Chelsea have now doubled their number of Champions League titles, and Lescott, who was on punditry duty for BT Sport, believes they will be contenders in the Premier League title next season.
“If you look at the squads, Chelsea’s is arguably as good as [Manchester] City’s, it’s strong in every position," he said.
"When you win competitions like this, it just binds the team together, they’ll have so much togetherness for next season, coming back with so much confidence.
"Yes, they’ll go away and represent their countries in the Euros, but next season, the confidence this brings will be immense.”
Chelsea finished fourth his season and a whopping 19 points behind City, but they did only have around half of the season under Tuchel after Frank Lampard was sacked in January following a disappointing start.
The Blues will be hoping to challenge for the title next season having fallen so short this season, but for now, they will be treasuring becoming Champions League champions for the first time since 2012.
Meanwhile, City's wait for a first Champions League title goes on and Guardiola will have to attempt to bring European success to the Etihad Stadium again next season.
