Former Man City defender hints at Liverpool FC transfer for Leroy Sane

Former Manchester City defender Danny Mills has insisted Leroy Sane would not reject a move to title rivals Liverpool.

The German winger has just over 12 months left to run on his current contract and is yet to pen fresh terms at the Etihad Stadium amid links to Bayern Munich.

Sane has emerged as their top target this summer and they're keen to bring him back to Germany with his contract running down.

The 24-year-old was heavily linked with a move last summer but injured his knee in the Community Shield and is yet to play for City since then.

However, there have been fresh suggestions that Liverpool were interested in Sane previously, but he had ruled out a switch to Manchester City's closest rivals.

Mills, though, believes the German could be tempted to move to Anfield, claiming the rivalry between the two clubs is nowhere near as great as a move from Manchester United to Liverpool, for example.

Clubs do not want to sell to their immediate rivals and that is normally the biggest problem," Mills told Football Insider.

“If Liverpool want Sane I am pretty sure he would go there given the opportunity. Why wouldn’t you? We have seen players do far worse.

“It is not a Manchester United-Liverpool or a Leeds-Manchester United. The rivalry is not of that ilk.”

Meanwhile, Owen Hargreaves believes only four clubs could challenge City's financial muscle to offer a contract to Sane.

"Bayern is always on the agenda for any top German player as you compete for titles, leagues and Champions Leagues," Hargreaves told Goal.

"With Leroy Sane at Man City, if he leaves, there’s probably only four teams he would go to. Barcelona, Real Madrid, Juventus and Bayern Munich are the only ones who can offer something compared to what he has at City."
