Former Love Island star hits out at host Laura Whitmore in catty exchange

An ex Love Island star has hit out at ITV2 host Laura Whitmore in a damning exchange, claiming she is only in the hosting job because of marital relations.

Former contestant Rachel Finni has stated that she is "gutted" that Laura is still hosting the ITV2 reality show in the next series, the Scottish Sun reports.

Speaking on friend Murad Merali's YouTube channel, she said: "I'm kind of gutted Laura Whitmore is hosting it though, I thought we'd get a Maya Jama or AJ Odudu.

"The benefits you get from being married to the narrator, cos let's be honest she's not a great host."

Murad agreed, claiming it is just "straight up nepotism".

He also added: "I think she suits Countdown, I'm not trying to be rude. The Weakest Link. An afternoon game show at 2pm."

The 29-year-old Love Island star continued: "When you think Love Island you don't think Laura Whitmore."

Rachel then praised the late Caroline Flack for her work on the programme, stating her energy and love for the show was perfect.

Recently it was revealed that host Laura has signed a new £500,000 deal to host the show for a further year.

On Wednesday evening, a source for the Scottish Sun stated: "There has been lots of speculation that Laura might be stepping down, or that other presenters were being lined up for the role.

“Laura and show executives always hoped she would re-sign — it was just a case of making sure timings worked.

“She is excited to be going back to Casa Amor and seeing what dramas unfold.”

Speaking about the show, Laura said: "Believe it or not, I know lots of families that all watch Love Island together.

“I can imagine watching Love Island with your grandmother may be awkward.”

Love Island returns on June 6 2022 on ITV2.
