Former Love Island presenter Caroline Flack found dead

Caroline Flack has been found dead at the age of 40.

The former Love Island host is believed to have killed herself at home on Valentine's Day, reports Mirror Online. Her family has been informed.

Rumours of the star's death began to circulate on Twitter this afternoon, leaving fans devastated.

Caroline had recently returned to the UK after retreating to Los Angeles in the aftermath of her arrest for assaulting her boyfriend.

The incident forced her to step down as host of Love Island, the show which had propelled her into the top tier of British celebrity.

But despite enjoying a hugely successful career with all the associated glitz and glamour, she had a troubled love life and was unable to find lasting happiness.

Caroline has been due to stand trial on March 4 after pleading not guilty to assault by beating following an early-morning altercation with her boyfriend Lewis Burton.

Caroline was a huge star who began her television career back in 2001 when she appeared in TV movie Is Harry on the Boat?

She's had other acting jobs, in the likes of Bo' Selecta and in theatre, but it was in presenting that she became a huge star.

Caroline worked on shows including Fame Academy, I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! and its spin-off, Britain's Got More Talent and The X Factor.

But it's Love Island that brought her the most fame.

She hosted the hit ITV2 dating show and its spin-off Aftersun from 2015 to 2019, but stepped down from her role after being arrested at her North London home following an alleged altercation with her boyfriend.

She had been charged with assault by beating, but pleaded not guilty, and Lewis had remained loyal by her side.

She had been banned from contacting him during a court appearance in December, meaning the couple were forced to spend Valentine's Day apart.

Yesterday, former professional tennis player Lewis had made a public declaration of his love for her.

He had confirmed they were still together by sharing a throwback picture of them in happier times.

He wrote: "Happy Valentine's. Love you."In December, Caroline announced she was leaving her job on Love Island just days before she was due to fly out to South Africa to host the first ever Winter Series.

Confirming the news, she wrote on  Instagram: "Love Island has been my world for the last five years, it's the best show on telly.

"In order not to detract from the attention of the upcoming series I feel the best thing I can do is stand down for Series 6."
