Former Lloyds bank in Bristol to be transformed into massive bar and restaurant

The team behind some of Bristol's best pubs are opening a new venue in the city.

With space for more than 100 diners and a kitchen headed up by Simon Miller, formerly head chef at The Ethicurean, The Red Church will feature a locally sourced menu of the highest quality.

Opening in the former Lloyds bank building on Church Road in St George in spring, the venue is a collaboration between the team behind Crack Magazine and the owners of The Christmas Steps and The Spotted Cow, arguably two of Bristol's best pubs.

The bar will feature guest ales on rotation from some of Bristol's best breweries, while the Crack Magazine team will also be brewing and serving an in-house special from their Crack Ales range.

There will also be an extensive wine list featuring both organic and vegan options.

With a vinyl-only music policy and first-rate Pinewood Studios sound system, The Red Church will welcome Bristol’s finest DJs on a regular basis to complement the food and drink.

Tom Frost, co-founder of Crack Magazine, said: "We can’t wait to open the doors of the Red Church and look forward to welcoming all members of the local community and beyond into what will be a unique offer in the area.

"The vision for The Red Church has long been in the pipeline and we’re excited to show people the renovation of this old bank building into a modern drinking and dining venue."

The trio behind this new venture is Tom Frost and Jake Applebee from Crack and Dave Smeaton, owner and operator of The Spotted Cow, who have experience in operating fantastic venues together.

The trio's first venture together was The Christmas Steps pub, which has enjoyed huge success since opening in May 2014 and is now bustling all-year round.

The team restored this historic building, which dates back to 16the century, with a re-fit which highlighted many of its most impressive features, and are looking forward to doing the same with their latest project.

The Red Church will be open from 10am to midnight on weekdays, 10am to 1am on Fridays and Saturdays and midday to midnight on Sundays. It is set to open in spring.
