Former Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has Trabzonspor contract terminated

Former Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has had his contract at Trabzonspor terminated by mutual consent after just six months in Turkey.

The 30-year-old had penned a three-year deal with the Black Sea coast outfit last summer after his six-and-a-half year spell at Anfield came to an end, but both player and club have agreed to an early parting of the ways.

Sturridge played 844 minutes of football for Trabzonspor this season (the equivalent of less than 10 full matches), netting four times in 11 Turkish Super Lig games with a further three strikes in as many Turkish Cup outings giving him a total of seven goals in 16 matches in all competitions.

The Birmingham-born player is unable to sign for another club until the transfer window reopens, meaning he is will have to remain a free agent until the summer.

His home city club Aston Villa were among the clubs linked with a move for Sturridge during the January transfer window, but a move to Major League Soccer in the USA may now be on the cards.

Sturridge scored 67 goals in 160 games for Liverpool , including a career best 24 in the 2013/14 season.
