Former Liverpool star Raheem Sterling says England silenced 'racists' after alleged abuse in Montenegro

Former Liverpool star Raheem Sterling has responded to alleged abuse towards England players by labelling Montenegro fans as "racists".

England boss Gareth Southgate confirmed post-match that his side will report the alleged abuse of Danny Rose, with the manager insisting he heard the chants himself during the game.

Sterling seemed to be responding to the earlier chants when he cupped his hand around his ear Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson reaches England milestone to help Three Lions hammer Montenegro in the 80th minute.

The Manchester City forward explained post-match that the win and his own performance was the perfect way to silence the ‘racists’.

He tweeted: "Best way to silence the haters (and yeah I mean racists) #2019 #getsomeeducation".

Rose was later booked and Southgate alleges that the Montenegro fans abused the defender following his yellow card.

“I definitely heard some abuse of Danny Rose when he got booked at the end of the game,” Southgate told ITV Sport.

“There is no doubt in my mind that it happened. We’ll make sure that is reported and it’s not acceptable.”

On Sterling’s goal celebration, Southgate added: “I’m not sure yet. I had a quick chat with Danny because I heard that.

"I haven’t had the chance to speak to Raheem yet. Whatever has happened, we will report.
