Former Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho is back to his best as he prepares to return to England

Philippe Coutinho will be hoping tonight has a better outcome than the last time he returned to England.

The Brazilian was part of the Barcelona team who lost 4-0 to Liverpool in the Champions League semi-final last season.

Coutinho never reached the heights of his performances in a Liverpool shirt at Barca and a move away from the Nou Camp was always likely.

The former Reds playmaker joined Bayern Munich on loan in the summer despite being linked with a return to the Premier League - and he now looks to be back to his best.

The 27-year-old produced a stunning assist and also got on the scoresheet during Bayern's 3-2 win over Paderborn at the weekend.

This is all very worrying for Spurs who face the German champions tonight.

Mauricio Pochettino's side have had a mixed start to the season with defeats against Newcastle and Leicester coming before a humiliating penalty shoot-out defeat to League Two's Colchester United in the Carabao Cup.

Last season's Champions League runners-up were also unable to hold on to a 2-0 lead in their last European fixture, having to settle for a draw Olympiakos.

If Coutinho is on form he could make life very difficult for the Spurs defenders.

The Brazilian has three goals in 13 appearances against the London side and will be looking to add to that tally on his return to the capital tonight.
