Former Liverpool star Gini Wijnaldum has suffered a serious injury just days after signing for Roma.
The ex-Reds midfielder recently completed a season-long loan move to Roma from Paris Saint-Germain. The Dutchman had left Liverpool in the summer of 2021 to sign for the French club on a free transfer.
However, just a couple of weeks after signing for Roma and with one cameo appearance to his name, Wijnaldum has suffered a serious leg injury. The Italian club have confirmed in a statement that the 31-year-old has suffered a fractured tibia and will now receive further treatment.

“Following an injury sustained during training on Sunday afternoon, Georginio Wijnaldum subsequently underwent medical tests that confirmed the presence of a fracture to the tibia in his right leg,” the club statement wrote.
“The player will undergo further assessments in the coming days. FORZA GINI!”
Prior to completing his loan move to Italy, Wijnaldum had made 38 appearances for PSG last term. However, the Dutchman was rarely used in the club’s Champions League campaign, with five outings in all and just three starts.
Things were much different during his time at Liverpool, though. Over the course of his five years on Merseyside, Wijnaldum racked up 237 appearances and played a key role in the Champions League and Premier League triumphs in 2019 and 2020.
