Former Liverpool star fires Leeds United warning shot to Championship ahead of Bristol City opener

Former Liverpool defender Markus Babbel says Leeds United are nailed on for a top-five finish in the Championship this season.

Bristol City host the Whites in a mouth-watering opening fixture a week on Sunday, and the Robins also have their eyes on a top-six finish this season.

Yet Babbel believes one of those places will be taken by Leeds United.

The German is currently manager of Western Sydney Wanderers, who went down 2-1 to Marcelo Bielsa's side in a pre-season friendly on Saturday.

Reflecting on the game, Leeds Live report that Babbel was adamant Leeds would be in the top five.

He said: "It was a fantastic test for us and a great experience for the boys.

"I saw many good things from us, of course, Leeds are a good side. I think they will definitely finish in the first five teams in the Championship.

"The first 30 minutes, they had one chance and scored. We had two chances and couldn’t score.

"We tried to play and tried to create chances, of course against a team like that you can’t create 100 chances. But also in the second half, we had two-three chances and it was a great experience for the boys.”
