Former Liverpool star Dominic Matteo shares message after being given all clear on brain tumour

Former Liverpool defender Dominic Matteo has been given the all-clear after treatment on a brain tumour.

The ex-Reds star underwent surgery back in November and was placed in intensive care at the time before continuing recovery ever since at the St James's University Hospital in Leeds.

And after six months of rehabilitation, Matteo has been given a clean bill of health, with the former Scotland international explaining his delight on Twitter on Thursday.

Matteo also thanked the hospital staff for their help in him regaining his health, describing carers as "simply incredible".

"Yesterday I got THE phone call, the one I’ve been praying for... " he tweeted.

"My brain scan is clear. After 6 months of fear pain rehab surgery and treatment. I’m healthy!

"It feels unreal! The LGI &St James hospital saved my life. They were simply incredible.

"Thank you will never be enough!"

Matteo played 155 times for the Reds between 1993 and 2000 and retired in 2007 after spells with Leeds, Blackburn and Stoke.
