Former Liverpool star Daniel Sturridge rivals Fernando Torres with body transformation

Former Liverpool forward Daniel Sturridge appears to be keeping himself in shape even though he is currently without a club.

The former England international netted 67 goals in 160 games for the Reds between 2013-19, including 24 in the 2013/14 season.

However, after departing Anfield following the 2019 Champions League success when his contract expired, Sturridge’s switch to Turkish side Trabzonspor was short-lived.

The Birmingham-born player struck seven times in 16 outings for the Turkish club but was released when his contract was mutually terminated on March 2 last year.

And on that same day, Sturridge was handed a four-month worldwide ban for breaching betting rules by the Football Association.

But the 31-year-old appears to be keeping himself in shape after an image posted online sent fans into a frenzy.

In a post on Instagram, Sturridge shared a snap of himself at the gym with the caption 'Reinvention settings', while showcasing his new physique.

Plenty of fans from clubs across the world commented on the post, while the UFC's official Europe account also took an interest, commenting a fist bump emoji.

Sturridge is not the only former Liverpool star to have put in the work at the gym in recent months, with Fernando Torres shocking fans earlier this year with his post-retirement look.

Advertising an 'AW8' shirt in the pictures, the Spaniard posed to show off his new physique, which was much different from the one he had during his time at Anfield.

“The fans were just different. You play at Anfield – you’re getting the goosies,” Sturridge told The Beautiful Game Podcast when reflecting on his time with Liverpool recently.

“You’re walking through the tunnel getting the goosies; like the goosebumps and the hairs on your arm are standing up.

“You see the sign – some of the players are tapping the [This is] Anfield sign – and you’re thinking: [it’s] different over here!”
