Former Liverpool star Daniel Sturridge joins new club on trial after year out of football

Former Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge is set to join Real Mallorca on a trial basis during pre-season.

The 31-year-old has been without a club after his contract with Turkish outfit Trabzonspor was terminated in March 2020.

That parting of ways came about after Sturridge received a four-month worldwide ban from football for breaching betting rules.

The striker was found guilty of passing on information to family members regarding a possible transfer during his time at Anfield.

He subsequently spent the entirety of 2020-21 out of the professional game but now appears to be looking for a route back.

And he will join Real Mallorca for pre-season training from Wednesday as he looks to prove his worth after a year out of football.

A statement from the club read: "RCD Mallorca has extended an invitation to Daniel Sturridge to participate from tomorrow, July 14, in training sessions with the club's first team as part of their preparation process."

There is no mention of Real Mallorca potentially signing Sturridge, but his involvement is likely to be predicated on the possibility of earning a contract.

Luis Garcia Plaza's side are currently preparing for a return to La Liga after earning promotion from the Segunda Division last term.
