Former Liverpool pub to be replaced by new homes

Plans for new homes on the site of a former north Liverpool pub are set to be approved by the city council.

Romaltra’s proposals to build 28 homes on the site of the former Hermitage Tavern on Lilly Grove, just off Queens Drive, in north Liverpool are set to go before councillors next week.

If approved by the planning committee, it would mean a three storey block containing 12 apartments can be built on the site in addition to a further two terraced rows containing 16 homes.

The pub had been closed for years, with the building being torn down between four and five years ago.

Members of the council’s planning committee have been recommended to approve the plans, with officer reports saying the site currently offers little value to the surrounding area.

The report said: “The site has little amenity value for recreation as it is a private site, secured by a wooden perimeter fence and locked gates with no public access.

“The site also has little visual amenity value, as it is overgrown and unmanaged and it is considered that significant weight should be given to the positive contribution the residential development would make to housing supply in Liverpool.

“There are regeneration benefits insofar as the proposal would enable the more efficient use of an under-used site with a development of residential homes which would make an important contribution to the provision of housing in the wider city.”

Under the proposals, the three storey block would face out on to Queens Drive itself while the 16 homes within the terraced homes would be accessed from Lilly Grove itself.

The terraced homes would also have communal garden space at the back and all the buildings are set to be built out of red brick.

Planning committee members will meet next Tuesday to consider the proposals from Romaltra.
