Former Liverpool player sends hilarious message to FIFA 20 cover star Virgil van Dijk

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has capped off a magnificent 2019 by being named as the cover star for the FIFA 20 'Champions Edition', EA SPORTS FIFA's latest release which is due out in September 2019.

Van Dijk was a crucial player for Liverpool in their 2018/19 Champions League success and is one of the favourites for the 2019 Ballon d'Or, such has been the level of his performances.

Real Madrid forward Eden Hazard was named as the cover star for the FIFA 20 'Standard Edition' too, as they take over from Cristiano Ronaldo, who was the FIFA 19 cover star when the game was released.

The Reds star struggled to hide his excitement about the announcement on social media, as he posted this message on Twitter.

Former Liverpool player Jason McAteer then took it upon himself to reply to Van Dijk's tweet, reminding him that he's not the only Liverpool player who's been named on the cover of a FIFA game.

Yes, believe it or not, McAteer was actually on the cover of FIFA Soccer 96 back in the day, although the FIFA game series wasn't nearly as popular then as it is now.

This FIFA 20 announcement follows on from the previously confirmed long-term partnership between Liverpool and EA SPORTS FIFA , for FIFA 20 and beyond, which will see exclusive Liverpool content being produced and are now front and centre of the latest release.

EA SPORTS have released a number of gameplay changes, new game modes and major updates that are coming to FIFA 20 already, including big FUT connection improvements, Pro Clubs updates, dynamic one-on-ones, new ball physics, re-designed defending and a complete set piece refresh.

There is also a return for the much-beloved FIFA Street, but it will actually be included within FIFA 20 as a new game mode, called VOLTA Football.

EA SPORTS™ FIFA 20 on PlayStation ® 4, Xbox One, and PC officially launches September 27, 2019. However, you can play from September 24th with 3 Days Early Access, if you purchase the Champions or Ultimate edition.
